Scrutiny at the council – get involved

27 October 2017

Residents are being encouraged to find out how they can become involved with scrutinising decisions made by Bridgend County Borough Council.

New user-friendly website pages have been developed by the council’s Democratic Services team that explain what function scrutiny and overview committees play in local government, and how they are used to monitor and improve public services.

The pages also explain how people can make requests on topics that they think require scrutiny, what topics are scheduled to be discussed at forthcoming committee meetings, and how people can watch meetings considered to be of particular public interest over an internet webcast.

The next scrutiny meeting set to be webcast will consider the implementation and roll-out of the new waste services contract on 15 November.

Council Leader Huw David said: “Scrutiny and overview is an important part of modern local government, and it helps to ensure that our policies and decisions continue to reflect the needs of our communities.

“By monitoring and questioning decisions, it ensures that we strive to provide the highest-quality services, and I would urge people to visit the new webpages and find out more about how you can become involved.”
