2017 Christmas events in Bridgend County Borough

Here are some of the festive events taking place locally this year…

Saturday 25 November: Santa comes to Bridgend town

Santa and his reindeer will be flying into Bridgend town centre at 11am with Rudolph leading the way in a parade around the town before they park up outside Santa’s grotto on Wyndham Street (12pm – 4pm). The big switch on of the Christmas lights will then take place outside Barclays Bank on Dunraven Place at 4:15pm.

Saturday 25 November – Saturday 2 December: Christmas craft market at Bridgend town

Complete your Christmas shopping at Bridgend’s Christmas craft market on Caroline Street 10am – 4pm all week.

Friday 1 December: Santa switches on the festive lights in Pencoed

Santa arrives at the square in Pencoed to switch on the town’s festive lights between 6 – 6:15pm.

Friday 1 December: A Christmas sing along in Pencoed

Join in for a Christmas sing along in Salem Chapel, Coychurch Road at 6:40pm then pop along to see Santa at his grotto in Salem Vestry at 7pm. Free tickets to see Santa are available on attendance of the sing along.

Friday 1 December: Kenfig Hill Christmas Lights Switch On

Join the fun as Santa switches on the Christmas lights at Moriah Place (6pm) followed by free entertainment from NYD Cymru 6pm – 6:25pm and the opportunity to meet Santa in his Grotto from 6:30pm at Talbot Community Centre; includes a free present for all children under 11. Hot dogs, cakes, sweets, tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available to purchase.

Saturday 2 December: Maesteg Town Centre Christmas event

The festivities begin in Maesteg with a Christmas craft fayre 10am – 1pm at Maesteg Town Hall, a blessing of the crib outside the council offices at 10:30am, Bridge FM Live 2pm – 5pm, and a Christmas parade with floats entering the town centre at 4pm.

Following the parade, the town centre’s Christmas lights will be switched on at 4:30pm followed by a firework display before the fun continues with a disco (£1 entry), and Santa’s Grotto (£2 per child) in the Town Hall from 5pm.

Saturday 2 December – Saturday 16 December: Visit Santa’s Grotto in Bridgend

Santa returns to Bridgend every Saturday between 10am - 4pm at Carnegie House, Wyndham Street. Entry is £5 per child and includes a visit to Santa, a photo opportunity plus a choice of quality gift.

Saturday 2 December: Bridgend 1940's Christmas

It's a 1940’s Christmas at Dunraven Place.

With Educational Stalls available including a 1940’s candle making workshop, decorations and stocking making, re-enactment groups, live music and much more.

Take a step back into the history of Bridgend and enjoy some historic activities.

Sunday 3 December: Porthcawl Christmas Event

With lots of festive activities the Porthcawl Christmas event will run from 10am – 6pm in the John Street car park. Attractions include a synthetic ice rink, snow globe, children’s rides, rodeo reindeer, brass band entertainment, gift stalls and food stalls.

Santa Claus and Mrs Claus will also be parading through John Street and Well Street with their trusty reindeer at approximately 2pm. Following the parade, children will have the opportunity to meet and greet with Santa and Mrs Claus and will receive a free gift.

Sunday 3 December: Pencoed Christmas Fayre

Ho Ho Ho! Santa Clause is coming to Pencoed! This event is FREE so book your place to see Santa.

But that's not all! There will be a ball pit*, soft play* and plenty more activities to keep the young ones entertained.

For the rest of the family, enjoy a range of craft stalls, food, drink and much more!
Parking is free, so come down to Pencoed this festive season!

Friday 8 December – Christmas Memorial Service in Pencoed

Arranged by Mel & Ron Watkins Funeral Services, Cowbridge Male Voice Choir will be performing at a Christmas Memorial Service for those who have lost loved ones during the year. The service takes place at Salem Chapel, Coychurch Road at 7pm.

Saturday 9 December - Sunday 17 December: Bryngarw Reindeer Trail

Oh No! Santa's Reindeer are lost in Bryngarw, can you help Santa find them?

Pick up your maps, pack your Reindeer food and head out to the trail to find them, once they're all safe and sound, head back to create your own Reindeer craft to take home!

Saturday 9 December: A White Christmas in Bridgend

I'm dreaming of a White Christmas in Bridgend Town Centre.

Bridgend WILL have a white Christmas with festive activities for all.

Join us for a snow filled day, climb into a giant snow globe and watch as a magical ice sculpture is carved.

Enjoy snowy street entertainment and play in the snow flurries on the hour, this event is free for all the family so get into the Christmas spirit and come down to Bridgend Town Centre.

Saturday 16 December – An Aladdin pantomime

The Aladdin pantomime will take place at Hendre Road, Social Club at 4pm sponsored by Pencoed Town Council. Tickets are available from Council Offices, Salem Chapel Vestry, Coychurch Road.

Free car parking

Shoppers can benefit from 2 hours free parking in the Rhiw car park in Bridgend up until the end of March 2018.

Shoppers can also benefit from free parking in Hillsborough Place car park, Porthcawl after 10am each Saturday in December. Sunday’s will also remain free all day.
