£100k repairs for Cornelly Community Centre

20 November 2017

Cornelly Community Centre is to get a £100,000 refurbishment with the repairs including a brand new roof.

Bridgend County Borough Council has awarded a £50,000 grant to Cornelly Community Council to fund the work, with the community council paying the other half.

The popular centre on Heol Las will also be transferred to the community council.

Councillor Hywel Williams, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Deputy Leader said: “The centre is very well-used, particularly by the Cornelly Luncheon Club who provide a fantastic service for vulnerable and elderly people in the local community.

“The centre is also hired by a variety of groups for sport and recreation, including dance clubs and art classes, while it is also a popular venue for birthday parties.

“The level of repairs required are beyond the limits of Cornelly Community Council to fund by themselves, but the building stands out as being suitable for a Community Asset Transfer.

“As Cornelly Community Council have demonstrated their commitment to running the centre and ensuring that it continues to be a community hub, we’re pleased to transfer it to the community council and also award them a grant through our ‘Town and Community Council Fund’.
