Generous response to food bank appeals

17 November 2017

Local schools have had an outstanding response from kind-hearted pupils and parents to their harvest appeals for donations to the Bridgend Foodbank.

More than 1,200 cans, jars and other products were collected from Ysgol Bro Ogwr alone, with all of the donations being taken to the Bridgend Foodbank distribution centres across the county borough to provide emergency food supplies for local people in crisis.

Ysgol Bro Ogwr Head Teacher Sharon Jayne said: “Pupils and parents were very supportive with our annual Harvest appeal, donating a total of 1,290 food items. This year the collection surpassed all expectations. Thank you to all parents and pupils for their generous donations to support the local community.”

Councillor Charles Smith, Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration said: “While it is a travesty in this day and age that so many people in Wales have to rely on food banks, as that’s the reality of the situation it is absolutely wonderful to see such an excellent response to local schools’ harvest appeals.”
