Santa’s coming to Bridgend town!

16 November 2017

The Christmas countdown is underway, Rudolph is ready and the elves are busy stocking the sleigh ready for Santa to fly into Bridgend town centre on Saturday 25 November to kick-start the festive celebrations.

The big man himself will make his grand entrance at 11am with Rudolph leading the way in a parade around the town. Children will be able to visit Santa at his grotto in Carnegie House, Wyndham Street between 12pm – 4pm before they make their return trip to the North Pole.

While Santa is in the grotto, his reindeer will be resting outside and available for selfies!

Entry to the grotto will cost £5 and includes a gift and photo opportunity. Santa will also be there 10am – 4pm on Saturday 2, 9 and 16 December with all proceeds to be distributed to local charities by the Bridgend Lions Club. Bookings can be made in advance at www.carnegiehouse.co.uk or at Carnegie House, Wyndham Street from 10am – 4pm each Saturday.

Adding to the excitement and festivities on Saturday 25 November, there will also be a stage on Adare Street with live music, local choirs and even a brass band!

Santa Claus will then join 50 angels as they parade through the town before the big switch on of the Christmas lights outside Barclays Bank on Dunraven Place at 4:15pm.

A Christmas craft market will also be held in the town centre from Saturday 25 November to Saturday 2 December in Caroline Street, welcoming shoppers with 20 stalls filled with lots of lovely Christmas gifts.

Charles Smith, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration, said: “It looks set to be an exciting weekend filled with lots of fun to start the seasonal festivities in style.

“I would like to thank our partners Bridgend Town Council, local traders and CF31 BID Ltd for their support in putting the events together and getting the people of Bridgend in the festive spirit this Christmas.

“Also, don’t forget that shoppers can park at the Rhiw multi-storey car park with the first two hours free up until the end of March 2018.”

Following the events on Saturday 25 November, there will also be a 1940’s Christmas parade taking place in Dunraven Place and Wyndham Street from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 2 December. The following week, Saturday 9 December, there will be a ‘White Christmas in Bridgend’ where the public can pop along for a snow filled day from 11am – 2pm.
