Favourites on the menu for National School Meals Week

09 November 2017

Pupils across Bridgend County Borough will be tucking into their favourite school meals next week as unique menus have been drawn up to mark ‘National School Meals Week’ (13-17 November).

Bangers and mash, tuna and sweetcorn melts, roast beef and yorkshire puddings, chicken casserole, and pizza are among the foods that will be served up after being selected by primary school pupils as the tastiest dishes.

They will also enjoy a ‘Big Breakfast day’ and ‘Fish and Chip Friday’. Secondary schools will be offered a similar selection and will also benefit from the full cafeteria light bite choice menu.

Councillor Charles Smith, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration, said: “Over one and a half million nutritious meals are cooked in our schools every year, and I’m sure that pupils will be very excited to see a wide variety of the most popular meals landing on their plates during National School Meals Week.

“Healthy eating is always encouraged in our local schools. Not only are the menus filled with choices pupils enjoy, the meals are also packed full of good nutrients enabling pupils to develop and fulfil their potential.

“A remarkable level of effort and work has been provided by the cooks at each of the schools within the Bridgend County Borough, and I would like to thank each and every one of them for their hard work and dedication in ensuring our meals fuel pupils with the energy they need for a busy school day.”

School meals for 45 local schools can be paid for online via the council’s website meaning it’s never been easier to pay for children’s meals.  Parents, guardians and pupils can find all of the regular school menus for both primary and secondary schools online here.
