New collection for nappies and other absorbent waste products

4 May 2017

Homes that use nappies and other absorbent waste products can register now for a new fortnightly collection which will start on Monday 5 June as part of a series of changes to home recycling in Bridgend County Borough.

As part of a bid to make the county borough one of the greenest places to live in Wales, residents will start using several new recycling containers from Monday 5 June, while households with up to five occupants will be limited to throwing out a maximum of two rubbish bags each fortnight.

To enable parents to achieve that limit, they can register for the ‘Absorbent Hygiene Products’ collections, which will be picked up on the same day as their non-recyclable waste.

In total, the Absorbent Hygiene Products service will cater for nappies, wipes, paper tissues, stoma bags, adult incontinence pads and nappies, absorbent bed sheets, plastic gloves and disposable aprons. It will NOT be for feminine hygiene products.

To apply for the new Absorbent Hygiene Products collection (which will use purple bags) please call 01656 643643 or email

Properties with six or more residents can also now call or email to apply for extra bags ahead of the new waste limits coming into effect. Coal fire users can also apply for extra bags to dispose of their ash.

Homes across Bridgend County Borough will soon be receiving information packs describing all of the changes to home recycling which come into effect from Monday 5 June. Residents are also asked to look out for their new collection calendars, which will be included in the packs, as collection days are changing for most homes.

The new recycling containers will then be delivered to all homes, separately from the information packs, before June. Residents will also receive a roll of specially branded waste bags which should be used for their non-recyclable waste.

Full details about all of the changes can be found online at
