Update on recycling and waste collections

20 June 2017

Kier and Bridgend County Borough Council apologise for any inconvenience that residents may be experiencing during implementation of the new recycling and waste scheme.

Work is underway to deal with issues and problems that have come to light since the new service was launched two weeks ago, and we have listened to your feedback and introduced a range of changes.

These include increasing the number of staff at Kier’s call centre, introducing an additional vehicle to ensure that collections can be completed in some of the county borough’s harder-to-reach streets, working over weekends to help complete rounds, boosting crew numbers and more.

Despite the implementation issues, residents’ efforts are yielding positive results as even at this early stage we are seeing a 50 per cent recycling rate increase, which is significantly higher than anticipated.

While these early results are encouraging, further improvements are urgently required, and the council will be working closely with Kier to bring the new service up to speed as quickly as possible - thank you for your patience and understanding during this initial stage of the contract.

Missed Collections

If you think that your recycling or household waste has not been picked up, you should check your collection dates online.

If you have done this and believe that a collection was due, leave the sacks, boxes and bags out and report it by emailing recyclingandwaste@bridgend.gov.uk or calling 01656 643643 and selecting the ‘waste’ option.

Absorbent Hygiene Products

If you have registered for the Absorbent Hygiene Products or ‘nappy’ collection but have not received the bags yet, please put your AHP items into the new blue bin bags, and if needed, use a black bag for any additional non-recyclable waste.

These will be collected from registered addresses without any penalties until such time as the AHP bags have been delivered. You can register by emailing recyclingandwaste@bridgend.gov.uk or calling 01656 643643.

Find out more

Residents are urged to visit www.recycleforbridgend.wales to find out everything they need to know about changes to home recycling.

As well as a short animation describing all of the changes, the website details what can and can’t be recycled in each of the new containers, while you can also read answers to the most commonly asked questions about the scheme.
