New council Instagram account will keep residents in the picture

15 June 2017

Bridgend County Borough Council has ramped up its presence on social media by launching an Instagram account.

Adding to its established Twitter and Facebook accounts, which already have more than 16,000 followers, the authority will be using Instagram to communicate with new groups of residents online.

The popular social media app allows users to capture, edit and share photos and videos, and will give residents a new, visual option for keeping in touch with the council, and to keep up-to-date with the latest council news, developments and events.

The account is expected to help the council to engage with more young people and visitors to the county borough, and with major regeneration projects such as the Rhiw development in Bridgend and Porthcawl’s Jennings Building coming to a head, users can expect to see plenty of exciting updates.

Council Leader Huw David said: “The world we live in is becoming increasingly digital and it’s important that this is reflected in how our residents can keep in touch with us.

“It’s exciting to be able to use platforms such as Instagram to share updates on major developments in new ways, such as the recent Urdd Eisteddfod in Pencoed and the return of the Senior Open to Porthcawl this summer.

“Our social media accounts are continuing to grow in popularity, and I’m sure our new Instagram account will help us to connect with even more people online.”
