Vintage bus to provide free seafront transport for golf fans

26 July 2017

Golf fans visiting this week’s Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex can choose a shorter drive by hopping on a FREE bus that will run between Trecco Bay and the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club.

And it won’t just be any bus – while the Senior Open will feature some of the biggest stars of yesteryear, a vintage open top bus will provide another pleasurable blast from past.

The bus will start running from Parkdean/Trecco Bay at 10am and will continue on the hour every hour (apart from at 1pm) through to 5pm on each day of the championship. It will make a stop along Porthcawl seafront (in the layby opposite Esplanade House) at quarter past the hour, arriving at the golf club at half past the hour. The last hourly return service from the golf club will be at 5:30pm.

Motorists visiting the championship will be directed to the championship’s car park which will be off West Road.

Bridgend County Borough Council is chipping in funding to provide the free bus, and Councillor Huw David, the Leader of the council said: “We are very pleased to be supporting the Senior Open Championship and are keen to encourage fans to make the most of this free bus service. However, if you do want to travel by car for your entire journey, please follow the signage that will be directing visitors to the official car park off West Road.”

Tickets are still available for the Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex and can be bought online at www.senioropenchampionship.com or by calling 0800 023 2557.
