26 July 2017

The world’s best over-50s golfers will tee it up at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club this week at the Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex, and in addition to top class golf there will be a host of activities for all the family to enjoy.

The Championship Village will be situated a short walk from the first tee and the 18th green, and will give spectators the chance to watch the 144 players make their final preparations on the practice putting green before starting their rounds.

There will be free golf lessons, supported by The R&A, and a number of challenges for the budding golfer in the tournament’s Championship Village, including a nearest the pin challenge in a golf simulator, a six-hole putting challenge, and a TPC Sawgrass inspired chipping challenge.

Golf Development Wales will offer street golf for children, and Radnor Hills will be situated on the driving range with their Get Active With Golf team.

Also for children, there will be face painting and a pop-up magic show and children’s entertainer.

Public catering in the Championship Village includes a fully-stocked public bar, fish and chips, burgers and a carvery. Also on offer is a two-course lunch in the Legends’ Club.

There will be a big screen with live coverage from the golf course, as well as a gift shop with Senior Open Championship Merchandise.

On course there will be two catering areas and almost 1,000 grandstand seats overlooking the first tee, 17th green and 18th green.

Championship Director Rory Colville, on behalf of the Championship, said: “The Senior Open Championship promises to have something for everyone both on and off the course.
