Share of £1m fund to help care leavers in Bridgend

11 December 2017

Care leavers across Bridgend County Borough will benefit from a share of a £1 million bursary fund to help them lead successful and independent lives.

The ‘St David’s Day Fund’ has been distributed between every Welsh council by the Children’s Commissioner for Wales to help support young people who are or have been in local authority care.

Councillor Philip White, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Services and Early Help, said: “As corporate parents for the young people we look after, we believe that care leavers need the same sort of opportunities, assistance and support that all parents try to give their children as they start to make their way into the world.

“This fund provides us with the ability to be able to support care leavers in Bridgend County Borough in a range of ways, such as improving their access to education, training and employment opportunities that will greatly benefit them in their future development.

“The money will be allocated to care leavers on a case by case basis, and care leavers can find out more by contacting their social worker or personal advisor.”
