Local children embrace summer games

12 August 2016

While Team GB are having fun in Rio, children across Bridgend County Borough have been busy enjoying plenty of games of their own with the popular School’s Out programme.

The School’s Out schedule, available on Bridgend County Borough Council’s web pages, is made up of a huge variety of activities and events taking place for different age groups across the county borough.

As part of the schemes on offer, children aged between eight and 12 years old have been having fun with sports, games and crafts at Active 4 Life sessions, as well as exploring the outdoors with den building, play camping and adventure activities with the new Play Rangers programme.

Run in partnership with each area’s town or community council, the free Active 4 Life programme is taking place from Monday to Friday over a four week stint during the summer holidays in different locations across the county borough.

Children aged three to seven have also been enjoying quality play time at Mini Play 4 Life sessions, which include a range of activities such as arts and crafts, games, dance and fun play at various community venues.

Bridgend County Borough Council is keen to support Welsh language activities as part of the School’s Out campaign, and parents can also find information on activities which are being run by Menter Bro Ogwr and Urdd Gobaith Cymru on the council’s Schools Out web pages.

Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Social Services and Equalities, Councillor Hailey Townsend, said: “Once again we are really pleased with the turnout for our School’s Out summer programme. Our new Play Rangers initiative has been a real hit with the children and thankfully the weather has allowed the play leaders to do lots of outdoor activities with them.

“We are very grateful for the support of the town and community councils to run the free Active 4 Life and Play Ranger sessions, which are keeping children healthy and active throughout the school holidays.”

Registrations are still open for some summer holiday programmes, for full details about School’s Out 2016 schemes please visit www.bridgend.gov.uk, or contact 01656 815215.

Please note that the holiday play schemes are subject to change and should not be relied upon for childcare arrangements. Children must be registered before attending sessions, but registrations will remain open throughout the summer.
