Fostering – Maybe it’s your time to start with Bridgend Foster Care.

“My friends say I should be mad doing foster work, but now some are considering being foster carers too, it’s great”.

The Bridgend Fostering Service helps people across the Bridgend area to become qualified foster carers. With a dedicated team of social workers providing advice, support and training we are always looking to grow and develop our team of highly valued foster carers who can look after children and young people of all ages.

Cath became a foster carer with the Bridgend Foster Care team whilst her own family were growing up. Now 16 years on they still enjoy every day of the work they do. This is her account of what it’s like:

“I remember when we were first told we were approved to become foster carers. We were so relieved as we were half expecting not to get through as we are just a normal family. When I get a call about a new placement I get really excited and start thinking about all things I have to do. Sometimes I put the phone down and just scream!

The support we get is really good, especially from my supervising social worker. We meet regularly and she is always at the end of the phone. I couldn’t be happier with the support I get. We have a fostering forum and coffee morning which brings carers together and where we support each other. We have also been able to do an NVQ. It’s a great opportunity”.
