Town and Community Councils Charter

In addition to Bridgend County Borough Council the County Borough of Bridgend has 4 Town Councils, which serve the area's larger settlements, and 16 Community Councils, which serve the more rural areas.

Town and Community Councils serve our communities by exercising a range of statutory powers and duties with the aim of improving the quality of life in their locality.  Town and Community Councils are responsible to their local electorates for delivering a wide range of services and for the provision and upkeep of local amenities.

All Councils in the County Borough of Bridgend recognise that working together provides clear benefits to the local communities.  So, together we have developed a Town and Community Council Charter. The Charter sets out how all Councils will work together to build on the existing good working relationship and displays the commitment of each partner for the benefit of local citizens.

The Welsh Government is considering changing the way in which services are delivered in future.  The Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act, will enable local government to determine with local people the majority of their local priorities.

Against this backdrop, the Town and Community Councils Charter has been revised to recognise that change is expected and to outline the promise of all partners to embrace the challenges ahead in order to achieve outcomes and demonstrate citizen-focused delivery of services.
