How to find us

Protocol

The following information will help organisers of functions to be attended by the Mayor and Mayoress.

Titles - the correct style and titles are:

Mayor: The Worshipful the Mayor of Bridgend County Borough (Councillor Reg Jenkins)

Mayores or Consort: Consort (Mrs Teresa Jenkins)

Deputy Mayor: Deputy Mayor of Bridgend County Borough (Councillor Cherie Jones)

Deputy Mayoress or Consort: Consort (Mrs Margery Griffiths)

Precedence

The Mayor shall have precedence in all places in the Borough, except when either the Lord Lieutenant or a member of the Royal Family is present.

Accordingly in seating arrangements, except when the Mayor occupies the Chair, the place reserved for the Mayor should be on the immediate right of the person presiding.

Where the Deputy Mayor is acting on behalf of the Mayor, they should be accorded the same precedence as the Mayor.

Reception

A nominated person should meet the Mayor at the entrance on arrival and introduce them to the host. The Mayor will usually be accompanied by a chauffeur who is required to remain on duty within easy call by the Mayor.

Speeches

If the Mayor is required to speak at any function, it is normal for them to be the first speaker or associated with the first toast, and the Mayor’s consent to speak should be sought well in advance. Information/points about a speech should be entered onto the Event Detail Form, and background information on the event would be welcome. All relevant information concerning the event should be supplied to the Mayor’s Parlour together with details of any activity involving the Mayor, for their agreement.
