Activities

For those who are not content to just laze in the sun, and want to be more active, there are so many things to choose from including, walking, cycling, scuba diving, surfing, fishing, swimming, skate boarding, Rugby, Football, skating, shopping, and much more.

There are also six swimming pools and four main leisure centres offering the opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to participate in active sport and recreation. To keep the children occupied too there are heaps of activities.

Many of these are FREE with the Bridgecard or Bridge Kids Card (ask at the local pool or leisure centre for more details).

Many swimming pools have fun activities aimed at children of all ages, from inflatable fun sessions, to canoeing and snorkelling. Why not consider buying a Bridge Card which provides an easy and affordable way of visiting many facilities.

Private facilities are also available including magnificent golf courses at Porthcawl, Pyle and Maesteg and 10 pin bowling in Bridgend town centre.

Exploring the countryside by bike or on horseback is cheap, healthy, environmentally friendly and fun. What's more, there are lots of opportunities for taking to the saddle in and around Bridgend County Borough. Whether you're looking for safe family routes or wild mountain rides, you'll find something to suit you.

Enjoy yourself when you're out and about but please try to consider other users, landowners, farmers and the environment. Pick up a copy of the cycling, mountain biking or riding codes of conduct and the Country Code.

If you're a cyclist don't forget that you can often get to a suitable starting point using South Wales and West's train services to carry you and your bike to stations like Bridgend and Maesteg.

For details, see the leaflet "Cycling by Train" published by South Wales and West Railway Ltd, WH4,. Western House, 1 Holbrook Way, Swindon, SN1 2BY.

For horse riders, many of Forest Enterprise's car parks can accommodate horseboxes. Contact the Coed-y-Cymoedd District office for details and to obtain a permit to ride in the forests.
