Food Safety
Food safety is the absence of any risk of harm from food. Generally speaking food safety describes the practice of ensuring the production of food in such a way that the food is unlikely to cause any harmful effects whether in the short or long term, to anyone who consumes it.
Food poisoning is readily recognised as risk from the consumption of food produced by unhygienic practices, however without sufficient controls risks may also be caused by the presence of foreign objects or chemical contaminants.
Central government legislates for requirements to be met by food businesses which are enforced by the Public Protection Department within the Borough of Bridgend. The pages below give a brief insight into how this is achieved.
