The average household throws away about 1 tonne of waste each year - so why not use the council's Kerbside Collection Scheme to recycle your glass, paper and textiles.

Plastics and drinks cans are automatically sorted and recycled from refuse at the sorting plant, the only reason glass, paper and textiles need to be separated is because they can be easily soiled and contaminated with liquids that could spoil them, making them difficult to recycle.

Recycling: we're one of the best!

Performance figures have revealed that Bridgend County Borough is one of the best areas in Wales for recycling.

In Bridgend County Borough, 100% of households are covered by a kerbside recycling scheme against an all-Wales average of 78%. But that's not all - the percentage of recycled waste rose from 12% in 2004/05 to 18% in 2005/06.

Over the same period, waste sent to landfill decreased from 68% to 53%, composted waste rose from 5.7% to 7.65% and waste used to recover heat and power rose from 0% to 6% - the highest in Wales.

Well done everyone - now let's do even better - don't forget to recycle!
