BT Payphone Removal
Introduction
BT wrote to the Council in May 2008 as part of a formal consultation process relating to its programme for removing public payphones. BT proposes the removal of 18 public payphones across the County Borough (listed below).
The Council published its First Notification on 18 August 2008. This is a draft decision as to whether the Council agrees or objects to the removal of each of the phone boxes and the reasons behind it.
Following the publication of the First Notification, in accordance with Ofcom Guidance, the Council was required to consult for one month on this draft decision. However, there were difficulties with the timescales for doing this and the Council was unable to obtain an extension to the deadline for returning its final decision to BT.
The Council has therefore based its final decision on the First Notification and herby publishes its Final Notification (2nd September 2008) accordingly.
How Do You Make Your Views Known?
Unfortunately, due to the fact that the Council was unable to obtain an extension to the deadline deadline for receipt to the consultation period from BT, this consultation has closed early.
What are the Next Steps?
A copy of the Final Notification has been forwarded to BT. The Council has objected to the proposal to remove 15 of the payphones and agreed to the proposed removal of 3 of the payphones. An Appeals System is in place to deal with these objections.
